Thurrock Football Club was a popular English football club that was based in Essex, Thurrock, and Purfleet. Until 2003, the club was known to be Purfleet and played most of their games at Ship Lane. The club was founded in 1984 with the name Essex Sports, which was then renamed in April 1985 as Purfleet. The club was created to play senior football and in 1985, it entered the Essex Senior League’s Reserve Division. Before getting into the first-team league, the club spent one whole season in the Reserve Division. They won the league cup in the very first season and 1987–88, they also won the cup double as well as the league. The club was promoted to the Isthmian League’s Division Two North. In the first season, they were the runners-up which earned the promotion to the higher Division One. The club was again upgraded to Division One in 1991–92 when they were successful in winning the division. After two seasons, they got a promotion to the Premier Division when they were second at the end of the season. It was in 2003 that the club renamed itself Thurrock. At the dawn of the 2003–04 season, the club finished with third place in the league during which they also won the Essex Senior Cup and the league cup which made them Conference South’s founder members.

During the first season of the club in the new league, Thurrock managed to qualify for the play-offs. However, Eastbourne Borough knocked the club out. But they were successful in winning the Essex Senior Cup for the second time successively. Even though the club completed the season in the relegation zone during 2008–09, Team Bath left the league and the club was reprieved.  In 2010–11 also, the club finished the season in the relegation zone. But the expulsion of Diamonds & Rushden from the Conference National league reprieved the club. Thus, Southport could manage not to relegate from the Conference National.

On 5 December 2011, after the defeat of the club against Staines Town, Robbie Garvey, manager of Thurrock resigned. After the incident, Grant Gordon and Lee Goodwin managed the team which was on a game-to-game basis until the club appointed a new manager. At the end of the season, Thurrock managed to relegate when they finished at the lowest of the Conference South. They were the 19th during 2012-13 in the Isthmian Premier, which was two positions above the relegation. But the club got three points deducted for the controversy of fielding an unqualified player which made their position drop to the bottom. Thus, they were relegated to Isthmian League’s Division One North. The controversy was also an extended legal dispute. Thurrock the play-offs for the season in the final during 2013–14. In 2014–15, Thurrock could get the fifth position and in 2015-2016, the club made it to the play-offs. Thurrock finished in the 3rd position in 2016-2017 and got promoted to the Premier division of the Isthmian League.
