Thurrock extended their winning streak to three games with a well-earned 1-0 victory over Dorchester Town.

Thurrock should have taken the lead in the 4th minute when Che Stadhart ran onto Craig Hughes’ ball over the top but the front man, clinical in front of goal so far this season, slid his shot straight at Gareth Stewart in the visitors goal.

Jamie Mudge had a number of chances to break the deadlock for Dorchester, with his best effort coming from a well worked free kick straight from the training ground but his shot whistled narrowly wide.

Thurrock skipper Lee Flynn stung Stewart’s hands from a 20 yard free kick on 48 minutes, moments before Nick Crittendon flashed his shot over at the other end.

Thurrock began to take control of the game and looked likely to take the lead in the 63rd miniute as Flynn’s deep free kick was fumbled by Stewart, before making a superb recovery save from David Bryant’s close range header.

However the home side didn’t have to wait long and just 3 minutes later Stadhart ran on to Hughes’ through ball and smashed his shot in off the post for his 7th goal of the campaign.

Dorchester would count themselves lucky not to have seen Stewart dismissed when, for the second time this season, Stadhart was brought down by the opposing Goalkeeper as last man only for the referee not to dismiss the ‘keeper and this time the Fleet were not even awarded a foul.

In the 69th minute, Aaron McLeish made way for Leon McKenzie after spending almost a year out injured and McKenzie almost grabbed a goal in the 82nd minute as his shot flicked over Stewart only for Gary Bowles to clear the danger.

Then with only seconds remaining Fola Orilnishe ran the length of the field with the ball before Stewart pulled off a marvelous save to ensure that Thurrock did not extend their lead.
