Superb Thurrock Batter Fish – A superb Thurrock performance in horrible conditions at Champion Hill saw them move up to 16th in the table.
The early exchanges were fairly even with the only moments of note being a booking and a cut to Fleet defender Rob Swaine. That changed in the 24th minute when a good cross from Danny Hart on the right led to a goalmouth scramble and Leon McKenzie getting the final touch to force the ball over the line.
Thurrock became dominant after that and Swaine was unlucky with a header that went just wide with Kenny Clarke trying to double the lead. Fola Orinolishe headed just wide moments later from a corner, the visitors being so dominant that Fisher were hardly able to get out of their own half. The second goal was coming and it was no surprise when the excellent Leon McKenzie headed home from Hart’s fantastic right wing cross. The game was nearly put beyond all doubt in the last minute of the half but Hart’s shot hit the side netting.
Thurrock started the second half as brightly as they had ended the first and Orinolishe’s shot was well dealt with by Overland in the Fisher goal. Leon McKenzie had a great chance for his hat trick on 70 minutes but his well struck shot went just wide of the target with the keeper beaten.
The third goal came two minutes later when Hart scored his first goal for the club, a well struck shot from ten yards out. With five minutes to go Fisher had their first clear sighting of goal but Joe Woolley made a smart save to protect his clean sheet.
